Happy Halloween.

Spooky

Doesn't this look like a spooky ghost?

It's actually a sting ray from the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans. They've got this cool Gulf of Mexico display right when you walk in: it's an enormous tank that is 17 feet deep, with over 400,000 gallons of man-made saltwater and it showcases these stingrays amongst other things.

The stingrays are rather Tim Burton-esque - when they breathe and their gills open up, they totally look like howling ghosts! They are fast little suckers and hard to capture with much clarity in a picture.

I just got back from New Orleans last night. So sad that I wasn't able to stay for the Voodoo music festival which the city was gearing up for...

And since I was away I didn't get a chance to carve a pumpkin this year. Speaking of pumpkins, I connected with the NOLA Rav Group, and learned that since Katrina, there have been many, many cockroaches in NO...so many that you can't put out your fresh pumpkins too far in advance of Halloween or it will be overrun by the critters. Ew! How's that for a scary Halloween tale?
