Baby Shower Cookies

Baby Shower Cookies for Jessica

I had fun making these sugar cookies for Jessica, a co-worker who is expecting her first baby in March. I had some trouble with the white royal icing - the first batch of flood was too thin (which acted like molten lava when it touched the other icing) and the next batch was very bubbly. And I had some colour bleeding with the wet-on-wet flood, plus the blue flood was a bit unstable...I have subsquently read some very handy tips on the blog Bake at 350 which explains all. If only I had read that LAST week...

Nevertheless, I was pleased with how these cookies turned out despite the issues above and the fact I was quite vague about the construction of a onesie, ya know, not having children and all. I wasn't too clear on where to put the detail lines...

The main problem with making pretty cookies is NO ONE EVER wants to eat them, saying they are too pretty. People, it's a COOKIE, not the Mona Lisa!

so cute!! And I love that there are smaller flower cookies, for those who don't want to commit to a big cookie.

Ahhh... I see what you mean about not wanting to eat them. Would definitely be a problem.
