Notes from Ghana: Kele Wele

Dispatches from Ghana:

Koko,

I am sad to say that this post is not about your mistress - Mrs. Peeps. Rather, today I am posting about a food which you would abhor. A food that is like cat cryptonite. A food made from a relative of the banana. The Plantain.

Yes, that's right Koko. The plantain is used often here. It is made into a most delightful dish known as Kele Wele (note that the recipe comes from the Congo Cookbook). Plantains are chopped into large French fry like wedges, spiced and deep fried. Most yummy to me (and likely Mrs. Peeps). A food to be feared by you. I am sorry that I do not have happier news to report to you. Unfortunately, Doritos are not to be found anywhere.

I hope to write with better news soon Koko.

With sorrow,
The Blonde One

Oh, Miss Blonde One! It is good to hear from you! You are right: I abhor bananas and I am sure I would also abhor plantains. Keep your kele wele and bring me some kind of corn chip product as a souvenir. And lose the Congo Cookbook, post-haste!

Hi Ms. BO! (I'm sure you don't really smell)

Can't wait to hear more about your trip. I'm extremely jealous that you actually get paid to travel to the far edges of the world, though your itenerary looks exhausting.

Yeah! She surfaced...oh Blonde One...sorry Koko, but we've been waiting to here from the Foreign Correspondent, and with such good news too...something else deep fried!

Enjoy, keep up the good work...

Any chance you'll be buying this Congo Cookbook? and maybe we can make some deep fried Plantians and other Congo-liscious, Koko-repelling dishes?

I'm hungry.
